Dr. Darrel Schmitz Retirement Reception
Join us for his retirement celebration!
The Department of Geosciences invites you to help us honor the career and celebrate the retirement of our colleague Dr. Darrel Schmitz. Dr. Schmitz has been an integral part of the Department of Geosciences for the last 28 years, including serving as Department Head from 2004 to 2012. He has been a tireless classroom teacher both on campus and online and, most recently, has re-developed Mississippi State's Geology Field School. During his tenure at Mississippi State University he mentored over 50 graduate and 300 undergraduate students in professional geology and environmental geology fields. Dr. Schmitz is well-known for his work in the field of hydrogeology, and for his contributions to geologic mapping of Mississippi, including co-authorship of the book Roadside Geology of Mississippi.
